Pinotage is the quintessential South African red: crafted from some of the country's oldest vines, Kanonkop's pioneering wine shows bold notes of black plum and dark berry alongside sweet spice and smoke. Full-bodied and chocolatey with warmth and ripeness, it has plenty of stuffing to cope with a braai (meat cooked over charcoal) in its youth, but will gain more complex nuances with time in bottle.

"Not too far behind Black Label in terms of quality - and it's also a quarter of the price - this is a nuanced, beautifully expressed Pinotage from a master of the grape. Matured in 80% new oak, it displays liqorice, plum and black cherry flavours, subtle cinnamon and vanilla spices, plush tannins and supporting acidity. 2023 - 2032." 94 Points, Tim Atkin
"Immediate greeting of forward, perfumed floral charm, with spicy-tobacco notes from 80% new barrels. Dry oaky element on palate too, but will integrate with the full, sweet fruit - already the wine gives succulent pleasure. Firmly structuring but unobtrusive tannins and 14.2% alcohol make for an effect that us surprisingly refined." Platter's Wine Guide 2023: 4.5 stars (93 points)
