Maxime Dubuet-Boillot is a real star in the making: grandson of Pierre Boillot and currently the assistant winemaker at Domaine Remoriquet. His very serious, own-label wines are made via fruit purchased through his family connections and friends in the trade - word on the grapevine is that Maxime is soon to have a domaine of his own. We await the news with interest.
His Volnay Sur Roches comes from 60-year-old vines situated near the border with Pommard and is a total steal for what appears to be 'only' village-level Volnay. This presents an array of sweet red berry fruit - strawberry, raspberry, sweet spices and a little wood. Rich and full with fine, silky tannins. Utterly gorgeous and difficult not to guzzle right away, it will improve over the next decade or two.
