Garnacha * 75cl * 15.0% ABV * Calatayud, Spain
The Proyecto Garnachas de Espana is a personal project of winemaker Raul Acha that relies on researching and selecting varietal Garnacha (Grenache) from ancient sun-drenched vineyards in Calatayud, at the western end of Aragon, that best express the essence of the grape. Intense on the nose and palate and positively humming with ripe and fruity blackcurrant, raspberry and damson, with cocoa and toasty notes coming from 10 months ageing in French oak. This is a powerful wine that can stand up to big flavours – it’s really meant to be consumed with food. The locals are partial to drinking this with roasted lamb, but it’ll also work with grilled meats, game and generally hearty fare.
