Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot
75cl * 13% ABV * Bordeaux, France
Undoubtedly, the wine of the vintage, if you ask me - and many of the wine cognoscenti. Not least because its vineyards adjoin first growth Mouton-Rothschild.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine awarded this an Editors' Choice and a perfect 100 point score. In the words of Decanter magazine:
"Pontet-Canet can consider itself a member of the elite club of over-achieving non-first-growth châteaux that includes Ducru-Beaucaillou Palmer and Cos d'Estornel."
Purple-black in colour, a generous nose of graphite and mineral aromas, copious amounts of seriously dark, sweet and juicy red fruit and liquorice flavours on the palate, with an amazing length. Sublime Claret. There is absolutely no hurry to drink this; in fact, we wouldn't open this for a decade at least.
"Top wine of the vertical. Deep, violet hue. Even if the nose is slightly closed, initially, what pure fruit! A degree higher in alcohol than the 2015, but superb balance. The pristine fruit, fine-grained tannins, focus and precision lead to an outstanding finish, surpassing even the 2010. It has the sumptuousness of the 2015, but the arc and tension of the 2010.Great capacity for ageing. Aged 50% new oak , 35% amphora. 98 points. Drinking Window 2025 - 2070"
