Chateau de Beaucastel are known for their mighty red and white blends from Chateauneuf-du-Pape. This takes the quality of their traditional white and raises it another level. Rich and unctuous, with notes of pineapple, citrus zest, honey and ripe stone fruit – this is a real textural, powerhouse of a wine, but is perfectly balanced by purity and freshness, as well as something slightly saline. Very moreish.
Beaucastel recommend that this is drunk young (over the next 4-6 years) or left to cellar for a decade or more. Only 500 cases of this were produced, so this really is a rare little number. Jeb Dunnuck writes that this is “utterly killer and is as good as it gets. Insanely good. Robert Parker once famously called this the Montrachet of the Rhône, and I wholeheartedly agree with him. Don’t miss this wine! 100 points.” Praise indeed.
