Mourvedre
75cl * 14% ABV * Languedoc, France
Mourvedre is more often blended than seen as a varietal wine, however this fascinating grape variety can be tamed to produce wines with a pleasingly wild edge. It is those with the 'savoir faire' or the knowledge of how to do so, reap the rewards. This fruit comes from old vines in the Languedoc, which is then aged in French oak for eighteen months. This shows an intriguing nose of tobacco leaf, cloves and leather that's caressed by some dark, sleek fruit. Rich and spicy, this is a wine for food - braised meats or grilled vegetables, rustic winter dishes.
