Bordeaux in 2020 seems to have all the freshness that made the outstanding 2016 so appealing, but also combines the warmth and accessibility of vintages like 2009 - we can't get enough of this vintage, even if volumes are largely down. Sociando-Mallet is another underperforming, unclassed property that is enjoying something of a renaissance at the moment, due to recent expansion and modernisation in the winery and cellar. In typical Medoc fashion, this offers both grace and guts on its cassis-rich palate. Fine and sappy, almost peppery tannins linger. A delight in the making - and winning 92-94 points from Neal Martin.
Drink 2026-2040+
“The 2020 Sociando Mallet has a beautifully defined and focused bouquet of intense blackberry, briar and wilted iris petal aromas; hints of boysenberry jam linger offstage. The medium-bodied palate features fine-boned tannins and predominantly black fruit. Very saline and sappy, with a dash of pepper on the aftertaste. This is a typical Sociando Mallet, full of grace and power.” 92-94 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
