Cantina Valpolicella Negrar is a really exciting winery which is at once steeped in tradition and yet truly innovative. With a history of wine-making going back to 1933, Cantina Valpolicella Negrar has been at the forefront of development in the Valpolicella region since its inception. The winery was the first to make the world-renowned Amarone, and soon after, in recognition of this, was awarded the Certificate of Special Mention by the Brussels International Exposition. This firmly put Cantina Valpolicella Negrar on the map and it has continued to look forward ever since.
This is a generous sweet red wine, unique to the Italian wine scene, with a highly aromatic nose - with intense notes of red fruits particularly raspberry, cherry, prunes and plum. The palate is at once sweet yet soft and creamy velvety, with warm notes of raisins on the finish. We'd serve this with dark chocolate and biscotti, or with a cheese board. It also goes very well with spiced fruit dishes, so why not try it with my mother-in-law's quirk of having a slice of Cheddar on some fruit cake!
