Chateau Tayac's vineyards cover an area of 37 hectares on the gravelly soils around Soussons. The Château has been in the Portet family for four generations and is very much a family affair. Guy Portet is the viticulturist (vinegrower) and Nicolas Portet is the winemaker.
The 2017 is a lovely Margaux, delivering aromas and flavours of dark currant and cherries layered with roasted coffee, tar and sweet tobacco notes. This possesses a medium to full body, with a silky texture, backed by fine tannins, which carry over onto the finish, where fresh cherries and roasted notes linger on. An age-worthy Margaux that should evolve beautifully over the next few years. Eric Boissenot is the consultant winemaker at Tayac, he also consults for four of the five first growths of Bordeaux – Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Latour, and Mouton Rothschild.
