Champagne Mandois is one of the few independent grower houses left in Champagne. Dating back to 1735, their 35 hectares of premier cru, organic vineyards supply 70% of its grapes - an unusually high proportion for a family-owned company. Claude Mandois, the ninth-generation winemaker, strongly believes in the use of oak barrels for making all his wines, but the wood gives a framing, rather than flavouring effect.
Produced from a selection of Mandois' vineyards across the region, this spends 6 months in old oak barrels and 3 years on the lees in bottle, as is customary for non-vintage Champagne. The result is a mixture of ripe orchard fruit and biscuity brioche notes. Soft, creamy and elegant on the palate with a lingering honey-and-toast finish. We think this represents great value for grower Champagne, which is why we have proudly stocked Mandois as our 'house Champagne' for over a decade.
