Mark my words: Bonarda is the next 'big thing' in wine. This relatively unknown red grape is actually the second most widely planted variety in Argentina. Tasting like a sort of Merlot-Malbec hybrid, it's easy drinking and moderate in alcohol with plenty of fruity charm and a tell-tale smoky finish. It also works wonders with the flavours of the South Pacific - tropical fruit marinades, teriyaki glazes and surf-and-turf.
