Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Petit Verdot blend * 75cl * 13% ABV * Bordeaux, France
The largest of all the Classed Growths, this top quality Saint-Julien has been produced at Lagrange since the late 1980s, when it was bought by the Suntory group of Japan. Consistently underrated by the critics, known for its fresh and modern style. 60% new oak is the highest amount ever used – but the vintage can take it, says winemaker Matthieu Bordes. Cabernet-heavy (at 70% of the blend) and yet relatively soft and inviting, even in this early stage of development. Intense black cherry, red plum, and blueberry fruit is complemented by tobacco, herbs and cedar. Juicy, with layered, velvety tannins and a rich, kirsch-filled finish. Energetic, practically fizzing with spice and pepper notes. Drink 2025 – 2035.
