Roussanne* 75cl * 13.5% ABV * Rhone Valley, France
The ‘Montrachet of the Rhone’ according to Robert Parker, this is seriously rare stuff: the 500-case production of this wine comes from a three-hectare parcel of Roussanne planted back in 1909! Accordingly, it has bags of flavour: caramelised pineapple, citrus zest, orange blossom, and an almost briny note that gives zip and tang. Unctuous and textured, and yet staying light and graceful. Enjoy over the next few years or cellar for a decade or more. Awarded the full 100 points from Parker’s former right-hand man Jeb Dunnuck.
