Carignan, Garnacha, Syrah * 75cl * 14.5% ABV * Priorat, Spain
This wine is an homage to the Carthusian monks who arrived in Priorat in 1095, where they cultivated the first vines. In 1835, a violent crowd destroyed the work of a lifetime and sacked the monastery, events which culminated in the auctioning of church land, which is eventually how Torres came to purchase the slopes. This is plush, with notes of baked cherry pie, sweet pastry and vanilla and liquorice accents. Ripe, smooth tannins and well-integrated, spicy oak. This will certainly benefit from a few more years in bottle before its peak.
