Tinto Fino/Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Malbec Blend * 75cl * 15% ABV * Ribera del Duero, Spain
We visted this winemaker last summer and were so impressed with this wine that we took the 2014 straightaway. This year we're lucky to have 20% of the entire UK's allocation of the 2015 - and we're sure it won't hang around for long.
It's a beautiful cherry-red coloured wine and the nose if filled with perfectly ripe red and black fruit. Sweet notes of plum and cherry are coupled with floral hints and clean, ripe cabernet. There's wood and vanilla and spices too, with that very southern European aroma of garrigue - heath land - blended in with the oak.
On the palate it's intense and downright tasty. The tannins are creamy and round and the whole wine is perfectly balanced and structured. There's intense fruit and notes of licquorice and spices with a long and satisfying finish.
Tomás Postigo is Spain's first carbon neutral winery and the wine is clarified with natural egg whites.
This wine can be cellared for a few years, but if you don't have proper cellar conditions we recommend drinking it within the year, preferably decanted and served with slow-cooked lamb (it's what they served it with to us when we visited!).
