Pinot Noir/Chardonnay Blend * 75cl * 12% ABV * Champagne, France
Each Champagne house produces a vintage prestige bottling that goes above and beyond the non-vintage cuvee. Vintages years of true greatness, however, are exceptional. 2008 for Champagne is such a year. Winemaker Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon believes that this is his “best Cristal ever on the market” in the 30 years he has spent at Roederer.
The aim with Cristal is to capture the chalk soils of Champagne – this is about power and not elegance. Plenty of acidity means this is a slow developer and will keep for years to come. Complex and super fresh, with notes of candied citrus, yellow fruit, pear and toasted almond. Lingering, slightly saline finish.
“This is an ultra precise Cristal, finishing with a mere suggestion of savoriness and warmth to come." - 100 points, James Suckling
A superb accompaniment to sashimi or king crab.
