Pinot Noir/Chardonnay Blend * 75cl * Vegan * 12.5% ABV * Champagne, France
Ruinart is a relatively under-the-radar house in the UK, but has a long and illustrious history. At the age of 23, Dom. Thierry Ruinart travelled from Champagne to study near Paris, where he was exposed to city life and the young aristocrats' fondness for a new 'wine with bubbles' (not yet known in Champagne). He convinced his family that Champagne had a promising future for a similar style of wine and in 1729 his brother and nephew founded Maison Ruinart, the very first Champagne house.
Instantly recognisable from its distinctive clear glass bottle based on the original 18th century design, Ruinart's Rose is blended from fruit from Premier and Grand Cru sites (45% Chardonnay and 55% Pinot Noir, with 18% of the latter added as red wine). A subtle nose of rosehip, spice and wild strawberry; on the palate, the wine marries exuberant fruit with a richly velvety texture. Ruinart are famous for their Rosé; and justly so. This would make a lovely accompaniment to a cheese souffle.
