Merlot/Cabernet Franc/Cabernet Sauvignon/Petit Verdot Blend * 75cl * 13% ABV * Bordeaux, France
This is Anthony Barton’s new, well-invested venture in Moulis-en-Medoc (half way between Margaux and Saint-Julien) and promises to be a favourite amongst the legion of Barton devotees. The estate dates back to 1457 and once held Cru Bourgeois status – with its pedigree and new ownership, you can certainly expect great things to come from Mauvesin and a desire to reclaim its once heralded status. This Merlot-heavy claret is full of notes of ripe dark berries, a squeeze of blackcurrant and violets, all tied together with chocolate and sweet vanilla from 14 months of oak maturation. Drink to 2030.
Decanter, James Lawther MW, 91 Points: "A project by the Barton-Sartorius family of Leoville-Barton. Refined with a perfumed, floral bouquet. Round and seductive; tannins finely edged".
