Pinot Noir * 75cl * 13% ABV * Burgundy, France
Frederic Magnien has experience working for two of Burgundy's most quietly accomplished domaines: Jean-Joel Gagnard and Michel Magnien (his father), as well has having spent time in the USA and Australia. Whilst his wines certainly have the character of their appeallations, they are not insular in their view of the world.
"When buying Burgundy, cost these days tempts one to stray away from the classic villages of the Côte d’Or and explore the far reaches of the region. Bottles like these are a salutary reminder that the great villages of the Côte d’Or are 'great' for a reason: this is exemplary red Burgundy that combines the magic of being full and rich in red cherry and berry flavour, yet with a lightness of touch and velvety, supple, yet powerful tannins. Frédéric Magnien is one of the Côte d’Or’s most dynamic and leading winemakers from “Generation X” – unafraid to make changes after winemaking experience around the world, but respectful of the classic land and vines that he’s inherited. Made organically from vines all older than 30+ years, this is a stellar example of a classically styled Gevrey-Chambertin." Rob MacCulloch MW
