Chardonnay * 150cl * 13% ABV * Burgundy, France
Louis Latour's Mâcon Lugny is perhaps one of the best known Mâcons within the UK market. What people do not always realise is that there are two levels of wine produced in this district: The 'plain' Macon-Lugny that tastes of relatively little and the single vineyard wines, like the Macon-Lugny 'Les Genevieres', which are rather more flavoursome.
This is due to Maison Louis Latour rigorously selecting grapes from the the best plots of the already well-exposed commune of Lugny which was the only village planted with Chardonnay 30 years ago due to a perfect terroir. Lugny is one of the top vineyards in southern Burgundy’s Mâconnais region. Stainless steel tank fermented and aged, this is a clean fresh wine with no oak involved.
Tasting Notes: Mâcon-Lugny “Les Genièvres” is crisp and yet still typically honeyed. The nose unveils aromas of lemon and green orchard fruit with notes of honeycomb. A clean dry, yet quite rich wine full of light lemon citrus and orchard fruits with nutty notes, it has an elegant smoothness with balanced fresh acidity and a lingering dry-almost honeyed finish. A good value quality white Burgundy that is drinking well now.
