Domaine Rapet is a name in Burgundy to watch with interest. All of the domaine's white wines are raised in 20-30% new oak and display a fine mineral character and structure, giving them considering ageing potential. Corton-Charlemagne is a very steep, grand cru vineyard that straddles both Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. In youth, this is relatively restrained and understated: smoke and stone mingle with something rather floral and citrussy. With time in bottle (or, indeed, decanter), it unfurls into honey, toasted nuts and white summer flowers. Drink with freshly steamed crab or lobster - with a gravyboat filled with melted butter. Utterly sublime.
