Taurus Wines is crowdfunding via crowdcube.com and will be launching its raise on Friday 9th June 2017

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is when a group of investors - the crowd - each buy shares in a company that needs capital investment to grow. These companies can be start ups or more established businesses, such as Taurus Wines, who would like to give their customers an opportunity to own part of the business.

The most common form of crowd funding is online. Crowdcube (www.crowdcube.com) offers companies the chance to pitch their business plan to investors.

The investors can buy shares in many companies using the same platform, building up a portfolio of shares - only without the middleman of an expensive stockbroker.

Why is Taurus crowdfunding?

We need £200,000 in order to fit out our new shop here at Whipley Manor Farm and a new site at Mellersh Farm, part of the Loseley Park Estate in Compton. This money will cover everything from flooring to bespoke shelves, staff recruitment and training, plus a modern till system, computers and up-to-date equipment such as wine dispensing systems for up to 18 bottles in each shop.

Our raise of £200,000 will be in exchange for 8% of our business, but if our target is reached, we will continue to overfund and use the money as a ‘war chest’ for future projects. We will only crowdfund up to a limit of £250,000 (for 10% of the business) so get in quick before the opportunity is gone!

We could go to the bank and ask them for a loan, but we’ve listened to our customers over the years and many of them have asked if they could invest in us. We thought, ‘what better way to turn our already brilliant customers into true Taurus Wines ambassadors?’, and so we approached Crowdcube with our business plan and funding target.

What’s in it for me?

Well, for one thing you’ll be helping to take your local (and we hope favourite!) wine merchant to the next level, and securing our place on the Surrey landscape for years to come. We’ll still stay our charming, slightly quirky selves, but we’ll be able to offer you and all of our customers a much improved retail experience.

As well as dividends (hopefully from the second year after investment onwards), shareholders will also have a full schedule of ‘extras’ depending on the level of investment you decide to take part in. These goodies will range from pre-loaded 'credit' cards for the wine dispensing machines and space to store your wine in our climate-controlled cellar to free hire of Brigitte Bordeaux, our vintage bar van, and use of the tasting room area for your own personal wine tastings with friends and fellow wine enthusiasts.
