Cuvée Jean-Paul Dry White 2011 (Southern France)
The Cuvée Jean-Paul blends have been Taurus’ 'house wines' for many years. Known as CJP to their ‘friends and fans’.
The white is blended from quality grapes selected from the Vin de Pays des Côtes de Gascogne and is a deliciously fresh but uncomplicated wine with a fragrant nose, zesty green fruit flavours and invigorating finish.
Cuveée Jean-Paul Medium Dry White 2011 (Southern France)
As with the dry White, a blend of Colombard and Ugni Blanc Grapes but the Demi-sec has a small amount of natural sugar left in the wine to give it a creamy mouthfeel.
Umbrele Sauvignon Blanc 2011(Romania)
Umbrele is the Romanian word for shadow and refers to the Carpathian Mountains which dominate the landscape where this wine is made.
A lovely Sauvignon at a very approachable price. Crisp and zingy with a creamy backbone.
Bellefontaine Sauvignon Blanc 2011 (Southern France)
A southern French white made by internationally acclamied winemaker Paul Boutinot, that is full of the vibrant herby aromas and rich citrus/ grapefruit flavours and fresh mouth feel that is normally associated with Sauvignon Blanc.
Montevista Chardonnay 2012 (Central Valley, Chile)
A true unsung hero of a wine...!
If you like your Chardonnay in a more Burgundian and subtle style then look no further.
Dry, fresh, bright Chardonnay. Untouched by oak, truly varietal and purely appealing with ripe tropical fruits and a smooth vanilla finish.
Pinot Grigio Principato 2011 (Italy)
Pinot Grigio actually translates as “grey pinot” and whilst some would say the grape was about as exciting as one of John Major’s grey suits, carefully selected it can make a soft and lime flavoured wine like this one. We call this “Surrey Water” as it remains our top selling white by a country mile.
Paarl Heights Chenin Blanc 2011 (South Africa)
The region of Paarl is named after the black rocks that glisten like pearls after the rain.
This chenin is a festival of bright, white-peach fruit with deliciously intense, floral aromas and fresh vibrant acidity.
Ponte Pietra Trebbiano Garganega 2011 (Italy)
The house white in Jamie’s Italian in Guildford (£ 4.45 a glass – cheeky chappie), here Soave’s Trebbiano grape is accented with a little splash of the highly aromatic Garganega resulting in lovely green apple / almond blossom aromas and a crisp limey palate.
Named as one of the Wines of the Month in Decanter Magazine who said it was: "One of the best affordable wines to snap up and drink now."
The Accomplice Chardonnay 2011 (Australia)
Whilst some people regard Aussie Chardonnay to be about as subtle and delicate as the V8 'Utes' driven by many a burly Oz winemaker, Aussie Chardonnay is now a more delicate, subtly oaked wine style. When they throttle back on the oak (like here), the wines are superb value.
A medium-bodied dry wine with lovely peach and nectarine flavours.
Araldica Gavi "La Luciana" 2011 (Italy)
The Cortese grape is traditionally grown in the area around the town of Gavi. This wine has zesty citrus fruit and lightly floral characteristics, steely acidity and an underlying mineral note. The fruit is pure apple and pear with a vibrant varietal definition, a fresh and delicate wine.
