Errazuriz Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc 2007(Casablanca Valley, Chile)
The pale yellow colour will turn golden with time. The nose displays myriad concentrated ripe fruit aromas, ranging from cherimoya to apricot interlaced withsubtle notes of orange zest and a hint of honey. The sweet, lush texture envelops the palate while crisp acidity maintains with wine's freshness."
That is the winemaker's note - all I would add is that Chilean late-harvested Sauvignon is an undiscovered treat for most lovers of dessert wine.
Quady's Elysium Black Muscat 2008 37.5cl
Elysium in Greek Mythology is paradise. The provocative rose and lychee aroma of Elysium resonate from the Black Muscat grape variety. Elysium can accompany dessert cheeses, such as blues; creams, especially vanilla; red fruit custards, clafoutis, and puddings; as wel as chocolate.
Quady's Essensia Orange Muscat 37.5cl 2007
The distinctive flavour of Essensia wine is derived from the Orange Muscat grape. Found in France, Spain and Italy, where it is called "Moscato fior d'Arancio" (Orange blossom Muscat), the variety has characteristics of oranges.
Domaine de Durban, Muscat de Beaumes de Venise 37.5cl(Rhone, France)
Durban claims that their Muscats are so much more aromatic and more delicately coloured than any other Beaumes de Venise because they use a very unique form of the variety .Whatever the reason this is the wine that the critics universally agree to be the best and is full of wonderful orangey / pear flavours. Sweet without being cloying, within France it is frequently used as an aperitif as much as a desert wine. Ideal with lighter puddings such as meringue
Crown Estates Tokaji Aszu 2000 25cl
This is the great wine of North Eastern Hungary produced around the town of Mad. It is so revered within Hungary itself that it is even mentioned in the national anthem. The region's ability to make fine dessert wines was discovered in 1650 by Zssuzsana Lorantfly, a monk. In 1650 the area was attacked by the Turks, and so the grapes were left on the vines. By the time they were harvested the grapes had started to rot on the vines. Zssuzsana made a wine anyway and the result was 'much admired'. The 'Noble Rot' (Botrytis Cineria) had been discovered and led to the production of most of the world's great dessert wines.
Antinori Donato 75cl(Italy)
Great served with Biscotti (small crispy Italian bread-like biscuits) that can be dipped in it.
Ochoa Moscatel 2008 Organic 50cl (Spain)
Muscatel (Muscat) is one of the few grape varieties that actually makes a wine that tastes of grapes! These particular muscat grapes are so delicious that it has been noted that the rabbits that plague this vineyard pick on the Muscat, and will only eat the other grape varieties once the Muscat has been harvested! Quite light for a dessert wine it will match well with fruit tarts, meringue dishes and summer fruits.
Domaine de Durban, Muscat de Beaumes de Venise 75cl(Rhone, France)
Mount Horrocks Cordon Cut 2006 37.5cl
Mount Horrocks' winemaker Stephanie Toole is the partner of famed Australian Riesling producer Jeffrey Grosset. Her wines are similarly well regarded and this delicious dessert wine shows why. One of our lightest and most delicate dessert wines that matches pretty much any pudding. Winner of a Gold medal at the Decanter Magazine Awards 2008. "Alluring lemon and lime marmalade notes with flowery charm and a fresh clean finish. 2008-2017" Decanter Magazine November 2008. "Stickie of the Month" in Decanter Magazine - April 2009.
Inama Vulcaia Apres Vino Dolce 2006 (Italy) 37.5cl
A fascinating sweet wine, flavours of the orange marmalade and honey botrytis character. A blend of 40% Semillon and 60% Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc. Fantastic when served with a blue cheese like Stilton or Roquefort.
