Chilean Earthquake Update

Many of our long standing friends and suppliers in Chile have suffered in the recent earthquake which struck in the heartland of the wine growing area. Although thankfully there have been no reports of deaths in these districts, the Chilean government estimates a minimum of 125 million litres of wine has been simply lost on winery floors from cracked tanks, ruptured barrels and collapsed stacks of aging bottles. The damage seems inconsistent and amazingly random: Casa Lapostolle lost an entire facility and Concha Y Toro was badly affected whilst Errazuriz only a few miles away is already back to business as usual. The main issue is that it is the beginning of the harvest and with a limited workforce and damaged wineries there is simply nowhere to process the fruit.

We will be donating 25p a bottle from any Chilean wine we sell during March to the earthquake appeal and will pass on any news as and when it comes in either through our website or through our Twitter feed and Facebook fan page.
